The intangible benefits of blogging
May 06, 2008 No Comments »
Search for the term benefits of blogging and you’ll probably find hundreds and thousands of blog posts and pages waxing eloquent about the great benefits of blogging and I totally believe in most of the stuff. Blogging has so many benefits that it is simply outrageous not to have a blog, especially if you run an online business.
Blogging has both tangible and intangible benefits. Since you’ll find tangible benefits of blogging almost everywhere, in this post I’m going to talk about the intangible benefits of blogging: benefits that are there but you cannot see them, you cannot measure them, and they may not even manifest an effect that you can observe. Here are a few of them.
Blogging broadens your perspective
Regular blogging forces you to think and learn. When you blog, you think about the things you need to write on your blog. Sometimes you even go to other blogs and websites to read what other have to say about the same topic. Whether you agree with them or not, varying points of views give you a broader perspective and by the time you have completed writing your blog post, you know more about your subject, or at least you can look at your subject from a different angle.
Blogging expands your social circle
You come to know more people when you blog actively. Different people come to your blog and if your blog posts are stimulating enough they leave comments. You either reply to their comments or visit their blogs or websites and leave comments there and this further exposes your link in front of more people. Similarly your comments on other blogs bring people to your blog. You may also like to interact with bloggers writing on the same topic and this way you exchange views or take part in intellectual debates. As more and more people come to know you you get invitations to join various meets and conferences where you meet more people from different cities and even countries.
Blogging brings you recognition
If you provide a service from your website (for instance, I provide online copywriting services) then recognition can play a huge part in getting you more assignments (this seems like a tangible benefit, but somehow it doesn’t seem like one). The more you share valuable knowledge through your blog, the more beneficial your blog content is, the more respect you earn among your visitors. They begin to recognize you as an authority and even begin to mention your name on other blogs, websites and forums. There are many authority bloggers whose names I often come across on various online discussions. This makes it easier for prospective clients to hire you for work.
Blogging lets you help people and develop a community
I think this is one of the biggest benefits of running a blog: you can reach out to hundreds of people, daily, and help them by sharing your knowledge and experience with them. What an uplifting feeling it is to know that people are able to improve their lives, better their interpersonal relations and improve their financial situations by following the advise available on your blog. Once you have got a vibrant community at your blog, people even find it easier to help each other while your blog acts as a common platform.
Please share with our visitors if you have some more intangible benefits of blogging in your mind.
